My children changed schools; do I need to notify USCIS?

As a general rule, no. A simple school change for your children is not something that needs to be reported to USCIS. The immigration system is concerned with changes of address, status, and employment, not with which school a child attends.

The important exception is when the school change comes alongside a change of residential address. In that case, what triggers the obligation is not the school itself but the new address: anyone under an immigration status must notify USCIS of an address change within the legal deadline established for that purpose.

• Only changed schools, same address: nothing to report to USCIS.
• Changed schools and moved: you must update your address with USCIS.
