Can I do a postdoctoral fellowship on an L-1 visa?

In general, the L-1 visa is not the right path for a postdoctoral fellowship. It was designed for the intracompany transfer of executives, managers, and professionals with specialized knowledge from a multinational company to a U.S. affiliate or subsidiary, not for academic or research activities.
