It is important to understand that the two visas serve distinct purposes within the US immigration system. The F-1 is for students with a temporary intention to study, requiring proof of return to the home country after completing their studies.

The IR-2 is an immigrant visa that grants permanent residency to children of American citizens, indicating the intention to reside in the US permanently. In practice, these statuses do not coexist simultaneously, as the IR-2 implies immigrant intent, which conflicts with the requirements of the F-1.

Upon becoming eligible for the IR-2, it is necessary to adjust the immigration status. It is crucial to strictly comply with the laws and seek specialized guidance to avoid legal complications. Although there are pathways to transition between statuses, maintaining both simultaneously is not feasible.
