What is Global Entry and is it related to ESTA?

Global Entry and ESTA are distinct programs: ESTA is part of the Visa Waiver Program and is mandatory for citizens of participating countries traveling for tourism or business, whereas Global Entry is designed for frequent travelers who want to optimize reentry into the country. Having an approved ESTA does not guarantee access to Global Entry, which has its own eligibility criteria.
