Is there a personal interview at the NVC for an immigrant visa?

In the EB-2 NIW, the NVC does not interview: it organizes the case approved by USCIS and schedules the final stage. The personal interview takes place at the U.S. embassy or consulate. Understand who does what.

No. In the consular path for the EB-2 NIW, the National Visa Center (NVC) does not conduct a personal interview. Its role is different: it acts as an intermediary that organizes and prepares the case before the final stage.

In practice, after USCIS approves the petition, the NVC collects and reviews the documentation, completes the pre-processing, and schedules the interview. In other words, it handles the administrative side, but it is not where you are interviewed.

The personal interview takes place at the consular section of the U.S. embassy or consulate in the applicant’s country of residence. That is where a consular officer evaluates eligibility and addresses any questions about the case.

Since each case has its own particularities and the steps can vary, it is worth following the official guidance from the NVC and the consulate and, if needed, seeking support from a specialist.
