Not necessarily. In EB-1, a title like executive director without direct reports is not, in itself, a problem. What officers evaluate is the role you actually play in the organization, not just the job title.
Even without managing a team, it is possible to demonstrate that your position involves decision-making authority and strategic direction. The key is to show the weight of your contribution, for example:
- High-level decisions that guide the direction of the organization.
- Responsibility for leading important initiatives or areas.
- Direct influence over operations, strategy, or development.
Each case is assessed holistically, taking into account the organization’s structure, the nature of the position, and the responsibilities undertaken. Since documentation is decisive, it is worth checking the updated criteria on the USCIS website and reviewing your eligibility with a specialist before filing.
