I am a classical ballet teacher and won a national festival. Can I qualify for EB-1A?

It is possible. The EB-1A is the green card pathway for extraordinary ability, open to artists who stand out in their field, and classical dance fits squarely within that universe. Winning a national festival is a strong signal of talent and recognition, but it rarely sustains a case on its own: this pathway evaluates a body of evidence that, taken together, demonstrates sustained, high-level recognition.

A significant award becomes a solid starting point when it appears alongside other proof of your prominence in ballet. What typically strengthens the picture:

  • Awards and recognitions of note, preferably extending beyond the local level.
  • A role as a judge, choreographer, or acknowledged instructor in the field.
  • Specialized press coverage of your work.
  • Performances or productions with prestigious institutions and companies.

In other words, the national festival is a valuable piece, but the EB-1A expects a consistent track record of recognition, not a single accomplishment. The more evidence converges to show that you are a reference in your field, the stronger your petition becomes.

Since eligibility criteria are assessed individually and change over time, it is worth checking updated requirements at the official source (USCIS) and mapping your profile with a specialist before filing.
