The process for obtaining an immigrant visa, such as the CR1, involves several stages and interviews aimed at confirming the authenticity of the relationship and the eligibility of the applicant. Therefore, it is natural to have doubts about who can accompany you during the interview.

Generally, it is allowed for the applicant to bring a lawyer to the interview, provided that this professional acts only as a legal advisor. The lawyer can help you organize the documents, explain the procedures, and offer general guidance on what to expect from the meeting with the consular officer. However, even if a lawyer is present, the interview is personal and the consulate usually expects the applicant to answer questions directly. Thus, the representative can provide support but cannot intervene in the communication or answer on your behalf.

Regarding agents, their presence should be approached with greater caution. These individuals, who act as facilitators in bureaucratic procedures, may not have legal backing to represent or interact during the visa interview. Consulates typically do not authorize third parties, other than properly accredited lawyers, to actively participate in the interview or respond in your place.

It is essential to strictly follow U.S. immigration laws and always consult the official guidelines available on the Department of State website or at the embassy/consulate where the interview will be held. This way, you avoid falling into scams or marketing campaigns that promise quick and guaranteed results. Remember that the best route is to seek accurate information and take advantage of the support of qualified professionals, always attentive to the legality and truthfulness of the services offered.
