A diverse city shaped by Tinker AFB
Midwest City is one of the most diverse cities in Oklahoma, with white, African American, Hispanic, and Asian residents sharing the community.
Approximately 60% of residents identify as non-Hispanic white. African Americans make up a significant share (over 15%), one of the highest proportions among Oklahoma cities. Hispanics account for around 13%, primarily Mexican and Central American.
Asian residents represent a visible segment, partly linked to military families (Filipino, Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese). Native Americans have a historical presence, with Cherokee, Choctaw, and other nations represented.
English is the primary language, with Spanish as the second most spoken. Tagalog, Korean, Vietnamese, and Arabic appear in military communities. Religiously, evangelical Protestantism predominates, alongside Catholicism, African American churches (particularly Southern Baptist), and Buddhism in specific communities.
