Predominantly White City with Growing Asian and Latino Diversity
Overland Park has a white majority, but the Asian community has grown significantly over the past two decades, driven by jobs in technology and medicine. Latino and African communities are expanding, with an especially visible Indian community.
The majority of the population is white, but the city has become more diverse over the past two decades. The Asian community includes many Indians, Chinese, and Koreans, attracted by the technology hub and hospitals such as AdventHealth. Hindu temples, gurdwaras, and Asian markets serve this population.
The Hispanic community has a smaller presence than in other Kansas cities but is concentrated along commercial corridors on Metcalf Avenue. African immigrants, particularly from Kenya, Nigeria, and Ethiopia, form visible religious and business communities in the region.
Brazilians represent a small minority, connected primarily to multinational companies and the medical sector. Portuguese-language evangelical services are held at several churches in the metropolitan area. The community atmosphere is cordial, and the city has a reputation for welcoming immigrant families with established careers.
