A mixed and growing population profile
Brandon has roughly 115,000 residents and a diverse suburban profile, with a strong Latino presence, an established African American community, and a growing influx of families from other U.S. states and the Caribbean.
The population is largely made up of middle- and lower-middle-class families, with a median age around 35. The ethnic composition is mixed: a non-Hispanic white majority, a significant Hispanic share (especially Puerto Ricans and Cubans), a longstanding Black community, and recent growth among residents of Asian origin.
English is the dominant language, but Spanish is widely spoken in shops, schools, and services. Baptist, Catholic, and Pentecostal evangelical churches have a strong presence, reflecting the religious character of the American South. Hindu and Muslim communities are also served by temples and mosques in the greater Tampa metropolitan area.
Brandon has been receiving domestic migration from states such as New York, New Jersey, and Illinois, drawn by the climate and the absence of a state income tax. That flow, combined with arrivals from the Caribbean and Latin America, has been reshaping the cultural profile of the area in recent years.
