Majority Latino city, with a historic Filipino presence and agricultural mix
About 200,000 residents. Over 70% identify as Hispanic or Latino, with a historic Filipino community tied to the naval base and a growing presence of Southeast Asian families.
Oxnard has a demographic profile quite different from the rest of Ventura County. The majority of the population is Hispanic or Latino, with strong Mexican roots stemming from decades of agricultural work in the region. Spanish is commonly heard in markets, churches, and schools, and many families have lived there for three or four generations.
The Filipino community is one of the oldest and most visible, tied to Naval Base Ventura County at Point Mugu and Port Hueneme. Filipino Catholic churches, restaurants, and markets are concentrated near the base. There are also growing groups of immigrants from Central America, especially Guatemala and El Salvador, as well as smaller clusters of Indian, Vietnamese, and Chinese families in Riverpark.
Catholicism remains dominant, alongside strongly growing Latino evangelical communities. Buddhist temples and independent Filipino churches round out the religious landscape. The median age is young by California standards, with many families and full public schools.
