Who Lives in Les Rivières: Families, Young Professionals, and Francophone Immigrants
A district of approximately 77,000 residents, predominantly Francophone, with a growing presence of immigrants from the Maghreb, West Africa, Latin America, and South Asia.
Les Rivières has a distinctly family-oriented profile, with a mix of traditional Québécois families and young professionals drawn by rental prices lower than in the city center. The population ranges between 75,000 and 80,000, spread across apartment buildings, semi-detached homes, and some newer residential towers.
French is the dominant language in daily life, both in commerce and public services. English is a minority language, and most municipal services operate in French. In Vanier specifically, the presence of recently arrived immigrants is higher, with shops selling Maghrebi, Latin American, and African products opening in recent years.
Historically, Catholicism is the majority religion, a legacy of Québécois identity, but practice is low and the district is quite secular. Muslim and evangelical Protestant communities have a visible presence through cultural centers and small churches spread across Vanier and Duberger.
