Is there a time limit to stay after an O-1 visa expires?

The authorized stay of an O-1 holder is determined by the period recorded on the admission document (I-94), not by the date printed on the visa. The visa allows entry into the country; how long you may remain is what the I-94 states.

As that period approaches its end, the path forward is to request an extension or a change of status before it expires, or to leave the United States within the authorized time. Any margins or provisions after the authorized period ends are defined by USCIS rules and are subject to change, so it is not advisable to assume that an automatic grace period exists.

Remaining beyond the authorized period is taken seriously and can lead to consequences such as difficulties with future applications, bars on re-entry, and other immigration complications.
