Let”s begin by briefly explaining what these categories mean. In the context of family immigration to the United States, the Family Based visa is divided into various preference categories. The F2 category is intended for relatives of lawful permanent residents, but it is subdivided into F2A (spouses and minor children of permanent residents) and F2B (unmarried children over 21 years of age of permanent residents). Each subcategory has its own waiting times and, in some cases, specific procedures, but it”s important to clarify how the fees apply to them.

When it comes to the initial fees, especially considering the petition that initiates the process – usually Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative – the processing fee is the same for both the F2A and F2B categories. In other words, regardless of whether you are sponsoring a spouse or an adult child, the fee to file the petition with USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) is generally standardized.

However, it”s worth highlighting that the immigration process involves other stages beyond the initial petition. For example, after the I-130 approval, there are additional processes at the National Visa Center (NVC) stage and, later, at the visa interview or adjustment of status. At these times, other fees may be charged – such as processing fees for the immigrant visa application (DS-260) or adjustment of status – which, as a rule, are uniformly applied to all family-based visa categories. Therefore, the difference between F2A and F2B is more related to eligibility criteria and waiting times, not necessarily to the charging of different fees.

It is crucial to emphasize the importance of monitoring fee updates on the official USCIS and U.S. Department of State websites, since these amounts may change. In addition, strictly following the country”s immigration laws and procedures is essential to ensure the process runs smoothly. Seeking information from official sources helps avoid scams and miraculous promises from companies guaranteeing results without proper case evaluation.

Always remember the importance of consulting reliable sources and, if necessary, speaking with specialists to understand all stages of your process. Staying informed and attentive to official guidance can make all the difference in the success of your immigration journey.
