How is the exceptional ability certification carried out?

In the EB-2 NIW, there is no formal ‘certification’ of exceptional ability, nor a single exam that issues a credential. What exists is the demonstration, through a consistent body of evidence, that you have a level of expertise above the average in your field.

In practice, this means gathering documents that prove your professional excellence and show that you stand out competitively in your area. The more coherent and well-organized the body of evidence, the easier it is for the reviewer to recognize the relevance of what you have accomplished.

• Awards, publications, patents, and original contributions with impact in the field.
• Letters from recognized experts attesting to your contributions.
• A clear organization connecting each piece of evidence to your professional narrative.

USCIS reviews this body of evidence on a case-by-case basis to decide on the profile presented. Since the criteria are evaluated individually, it is worth verifying the updated requirements with the agency or a specialist before filing.
