I won a state government award. Is it ‘national’?

In general, an award granted by a state-level entity is treated as regional recognition, not national, in the context of EB-1. When a petition expects national or international recognition, the expectation is that the distinction reaches beyond the borders of a single state.

In short, a state award alone rarely equals a national distinction, but it can be part of a strong dossier. Since each case is assessed individually, it is worth checking the updated guidance at the official source (USCIS) and evaluating the weight of this evidence with a specialist.
