I joined a ‘National Writers Union’. Is it based only on fees?

Being a member of the National Writers Union typically involves paying periodic dues, so in that sense membership does have a financial contribution component. But for an EB-1 petition, the more important question is a different one: a membership obtained simply by paying tends to carry limited weight as evidence.

In the EB-1, participation in associations generally counts as proof of distinction when admission to the organization requires a notable achievement or recognition, evaluated by experts in the field. An association open to any professional who pays annual dues is unlikely, on its own, to support that type of criterion.

That does not mean belonging to the organization is without value. It can:

• Strengthen your networking and professional presence.
• Add context as part of a broader body of evidence.
• Help demonstrate ongoing engagement in your field.

The key point is that professional merit must be proven through solid evidence, not through membership alone. Since the analysis is done on a case-by-case basis, it is worth checking the current requirements and assessing your profile with a specialist.
