I have 3 regional awards. Do they add up as ‘international awards’ for EB-1?

Not automatically. In the EB-1, awards count as evidence of recognition in your field, but each one is evaluated individually, based on the prestige of the granting organization and the reach of the recognition. Three regional awards remain three regional awards: they do not ‘add up’ to create, together, the weight of an international distinction.

That does not mean regional awards are worthless. They help build a picture of excellence and can strengthen the overall body of evidence, especially when accompanied by other elements such as publications, citations of your work, participation as a judge, or coverage in specialized press.

What tends to carry more weight is the reach of the award: whether it is competitive, selective, and recognized by experts inside and outside your region. A single highly prestigious recognition often says more than several awards of local scope.

Since the analysis is always case by case, it is worth building your dossier by looking at the quality and relevance of each piece of evidence, not just the quantity. To understand how awards are evaluated, review the official guidance from USCIS or speak with a specialist about your profile.
