I am a Head Coach of a sports team, with no subordinates beyond the athletes. Does EB-1C apply?

It is probably not the best fit. EB-1C is designed for executives and managers of multinational companies who, upon being transferred to a U.S. unit, continue to lead operations and people within an organizational structure. The focus is on a managerial or executive function in a corporate context, not merely technical leadership.

Being a Head Coach involves leadership and expertise, but EB-1C typically looks for something different: whether you manage a hierarchical team of subordinates (supervisors, administrative staff, other managers) and are responsible for a structured operation. Coordinating and training athletes, without a managerial chain below you, generally does not constitute the managerial role the category requires.

• EB-1C values the management of operations and an organized team within a multinational company.
• Technical leadership over athletes alone rarely satisfies that requirement.
• Profiles with notable sports achievements sometimes fit better in other merit-based categories.
