For EB-1A, do 3 minor awards replace 1 major one?

No such rule exists. In EB-1A, the green card category for extraordinary ability, there is no formula in which three minor awards equal one major one. USCIS does not count trophies: it evaluates the strength of each piece of evidence within the overall case.

That does not mean multiple minor awards are useless. They can reinforce the picture of a recognized professional, but what carries weight is the quality and impact of each recognition, not a simple tally. Some factors that enter the analysis:

• The prestige and reach of each award in your field.
• How selective and recognized the granting organization is.
• How those awards fit with the rest of your track record.

A handful of local awards will rarely stand in for a widely recognized distinction, but a coherent body of evidence, awards included, can build a strong profile. Everything is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
