EB-1B: I lack awards, but I have publications and peer reviews. Do I already meet the criteria?

The EB-1B is the path for professors and researchers with international recognition in their field. The good news is that awards are not the only route: the category accepts different types of evidence of distinction, and the absence of prizes does not, in itself, eliminate your eligibility.

Publications and service as a peer reviewer of other researchers’ work are among the recognized forms of evidence. What the USCIS evaluates is whether the overall body of evidence consistently demonstrates that you have recognition and influence in your field.

Beyond publications and peer reviews, the following typically strengthen a case:

• Citations and the impact of your work on the academic community.
• Participation in committees or panels that evaluate scholarly work.
• Collaborations with relevant institutions in your field.

More than simply checking items off a list, what matters is the quality and relevance of each piece of evidence. A handful of weak proofs is worth less than a few solid, well-documented ones.

Because the exact number of criteria required and the way they are assessed can change and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, confirm the current requirements at the official source (USCIS) and, if possible, have your profile reviewed by a specialist.
