The EB-1A is the green card pathway for individuals with extraordinary ability, demonstrated through a consistent track record of achievements and recognition in their field. Volunteering in philanthropic projects is not a requirement of this category and, on its own, cannot sustain a petition.

That said, it can add value as supporting evidence when it connects clearly to your professional work, whether in science, technology, the arts, business, or sports, and when it helps demonstrate leadership, influence, or impact. Volunteer work aligned with your expertise strengthens the narrative of your overall profile.

The greatest weight in the evaluation, however, remains on the core evidence of merit: results, original contributions, publications, roles of distinction, and recognition from peers and the broader community. Volunteering enters as a complement, not as a foundation.
