Are there different EB-1A criteria for business or sports?

The EB-1A (extraordinary ability) category has a single set of criteria that applies equally to business, sports, sciences, arts, and education. There is no easier or harder standard by field: in all of them, the applicant must demonstrate national or international recognition, sustained excellence, and significant contributions in their area.

What truly differs from one sector to another is the nature of the evidence that supports that same standard. Some examples:

• In sports: results in high-level competitions, recognized awards, coverage in specialized media, and evaluations by experts.
• In business: economic impact and company results, industry awards, leadership roles, and mentions in relevant publications.

In any field, the strength of a case comes from the consistency and organization of the evidence, not from the label of the profession. Since the analysis is conducted on a case-by-case basis by USCIS, it is worth confirming updated criteria with USCIS and building the petition with the support of a specialist.
