Is there a mandatory interview for E-3 dependents?

For dependents of the E-3 visa (the derivative visa, commonly known as the E-3D), an interview may be required, and the answer depends on the U.S. consulate or embassy where the application is filed.

As a general rule of consular operations, adult dependents are typically expected to attend the interview, while young children are frequently exempt from this step at many posts. Even so, a consular officer may request the presence of an applicant even when a lengthy conversation does not appear to be necessary.
