Who Lives in Medford
A predominantly white city with a strong Hispanic presence, especially Mexican and Central American. Asian and Russian communities are small but established.
About 75% of residents identify as non-Hispanic white. The Hispanic population makes up roughly 16% of the city, with a historical presence tied to agriculture in the valley and continued growth over recent decades, including Mexican, Salvadoran, and Guatemalan immigrants.
There is a small but established Russian and Ukrainian community, an outgrowth of Slavic migration to Oregon. Asian communities (Vietnamese, Chinese, Filipino) are smaller than in Portland but present. Religious life has a strong Catholic presence among Hispanics and a Protestant presence among the white population.
The Brazilian community in Medford is very small, generally linked to medical professionals or those in transition. The city has an older age profile than university towns, with many retirees attracted by the climate and proximity to California.
