There is no fixed limit on the number of renewals or extensions of the O-1 visa. In principle, it can be extended multiple times, as long as you continue demonstrating your extraordinary ability and that there is an ongoing need for your presence in the United States for work.

This does not mean, however, that renewal is guaranteed or open-ended. The visa is granted for a limited period and extensions cover new defined periods, always for terms set by the authorities. Each extension request must be well supported. The following are typically required:

  • Updated documentation proving the continuity of the activity.
  • Evidence that your work continues in the area of specialization.
  • Demonstration of the continued need for your presence in the country.

Since each petition is evaluated individually, the periods granted and extended may vary depending on the case and current rules. It is worth checking updated timelines and requirements with USCIS or a specialist before each renewal.
