Students with an F-1 visa in intensive language courses face restrictions on working, generally being allowed only to work on-campus, in compliance with U.S. immigration rules.

The F visa, widely used by international students who come to the United States to improve academic or language skills, has specific rules regarding the combination of study and work. Therefore, it is important to understand the conditions involving both the intensive language course and employment opportunities.

In general, students with an F-1 visa are required to dedicate themselves full-time to the activities of the course in which they are enrolled. In the case of intensive language programs, in many situations these courses do not qualify as a regular academic course that grants access to benefits such as off-campus work authorization (for example, through Curricular Practical Training – CPT or Optional Practical Training – OPT).

For this reason, most students enrolled in language courses will not be able to work off-campus if they are maintaining F-1 status exclusively for intensive language studies. However, on-campus employment opportunities do exist. Some authorized institutions offer on-campus work positions for international students, allowing paid activities for up to 20 hours per week during academic terms.

It is crucial to verify whether the school where you are enrolled is certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) and whether the intensive language program permits such flexibility without compromising full-time study status.

I emphasize the importance of strictly following United States immigration rules. Work conditions may vary according to the course, institution, and updates in legislation. Therefore, always seek information directly from the school and consult reliable sources or specialized immigration professionals to avoid any issues related to violations of the law.

Be aware of offers and marketing campaigns that promise ease or quick results, as following the correct procedure is essential to maintain your legal status in the country.

In summary, for most students enrolled in an intensive language program with an F-1 visa, work opportunities are very limited and generally restricted only to on-campus activities, always respecting the rules established by U.S. immigration authorities.
