Do letters that only speak to my personal character help?

In the EB-2 NIW, recommendation letters that speak only to your personal character (integrity, ethics, dedication) offer limited support on their own. What truly sustains the petition is demonstrating that your work has merit and relevance to the national interest of the United States.

For this reason, the focus of the letters should be on your professional contributions and the concrete impact of your work, not merely on moral qualities. Character references can complement the overall picture of a candidate, but they do not replace technical evidence.

Recommendations tend to be stronger when they:

• Describe concrete achievements and results from your work.
• Explain why your contributions are relevant to the field and to the country.
• Come from recognized professionals who are qualified to validate your expertise.

Each case is evaluated individually by the competent authority. It is worth assembling a balanced combination of evidence and, when in doubt, reviewing the updated guidance from USCIS or consulting a specialist before filing.
