I was an award-winning scout as a child. Does that count for EB-1?

Under the EB-1, a childhood scouting award is an admirable achievement, but it rarely sustains a petition on its own. The extraordinary ability category looks for consolidated recognition in your current professional field, not for personal distinctions earned outside the area in which you work today.

What the reviewing authority looks for is evidence of sustained excellence and relevant contribution throughout your career, demonstrated over time by a body of proof. A childhood award may, at most, illustrate leadership qualities, but it does not substitute for that professional track record.

• Sustained distinction, not isolated or from the distant past.
• A set of mutually reinforcing pieces of evidence.

If this is one of the few awards you hold, the path forward is to strengthen your file with current, substantive achievements in your field. Each case is evaluated individually, so confirm the updated requirements at the official source (USCIS) or with a specialist before filing, and do not rely on promises of guaranteed approval.
