I haven’t worked for a year, but I have an award history. Am I missing ‘sustained acclaim’?

Not necessarily. In the EB-1, sustained acclaim refers to the consistent, high-level recognition accumulated throughout a career, not a measure of what you accomplished in a single year. A gap in work activity does not, by itself, erase a solid history of awards and distinction in your field.

What the analysis looks for is a continuous trajectory of achievements recognized by third parties. Relevant awards, publications, mentions, and prestigious positions continue to carry weight as evidence even if the most recent accomplishment is not from the past year. The focus is on accumulated relevance, not the date of your last project.

To support that argument, it helps to organize evidence that demonstrates continuity and impact over time:

• Awards and distinctions, with context explaining the prestige of each one.
• Articles, features, and mentions in credible outlets within your field.
• Letters from experts attesting to the lasting relevance of your work.

Because each case is evaluated individually by the competent authority, it is worth checking the updated requirements at the official source (USCIS) and, if possible, reviewing your profile with a specialist before filing.
