United States immigration has several Family Based visa categories, each with its own annual limits – what we call quotas. These categories, identified as F1, F2, F3, and F4, are intended for different types of family relationships. Thus, it is important to understand that the quotas attributed to each of these categories operate individually and are not combined among themselves.

To elaborate:
• F1 is intended for unmarried adult children of American citizens;
• F2 refers to spouses and children of permanent residents (divided into F2A for spouses and minor children, and F2B for unmarried adult children);
• F3 covers married children of American citizens;
• F4 includes brothers and sisters of American citizens.

Each of these categories has an annual numerical ceiling set by the US government, which is applied separately. This means that, in terms of immigration benefits and waiting times, the quota that applies to a particular petition is not added to that of another category. For example, the F2 quota is not combined with F1 or with F3 and F4 quotas to increase the total number available or decrease applicants” waiting times.

It is worth emphasizing the importance of strictly following immigration laws, as the system is complex and subject to updates. Always seek information from official sources and be wary of miraculous promises made by marketing campaigns or unreliable sources, as they can lead to traps and frauds. Specialized companies can provide guidance, but it is essential that you confirm and understand information directly from United States immigration authorities or through consultancies recognized and regulated by competent bodies.

Each case has its particularities, so staying updated and well informed is crucial for the processes to advance transparently and according to the law. If there are specific doubts or a need for additional clarifications, consulting the current legislation and following official announcements is always the best practice.
